“Don’t judge a book by its cover” – a well known phrase people often apply to…well…anything and everything: people, places, packaging – one thing’s for sure, I’m all for judging wine by its label!
Don’t get me wrong; it’s not a full-proof way to choose great tasting wine in isolation – more often than not, I’ll start by looking at a country or grape I know I tend to enjoy drinking – but I’m still faced with a multitude of choice, and I maintain that a bit of book cover (a.k.a. bottle label) judgement not only steers me to making a decision (which I’m notoriously bad at…I could lose many minutes of my life, blankly staring at a wall of wine in front of me) but it gives me a good indication of the care and attention that has been paid to the goods inside the bottle. Willingness to invest some time and money into the design of the cover (label) of their book (bottle) is a good sign of a good wine!
